Zayd Ayers Dohrn was born underground and raised in New York City. His plays include The Profane (Playwrights Horizons), Outside People
(Vineyard/Naked Angels), Want (Steppenwolf First Look), Sick (National New Play Network), and Reborning (The Public/SPF).
His work has been produced and developed across the country and internationally, including at New York Stage & Film, The O'Neill Playwrights Conference, South Coast Rep, Manhattan Theatre Club,
Theatre for One, The Orchard Project, Ars Nova, SF Playhouse, New York Theatre Workshop, Kitchen Dog Theater, Boston Playwrights', Brazil’s Visceral Companhia, Panama's Theatre Guild of Ancon, the BrechtBau Theater in Tübingen, Germany, and the Royal Court Theatre of London.
He won the Horton Foote American Play Prize, Lincoln Center’s Lecomte du Nouy Prize, Theatre Masters' Visionary Playwright Award, the Kennedy Center Jean Kennedy Smith Award, the Sky Cooper American Playwriting Prize, and the Dallas Critic's Award and Independent Reviewers of New England Award for Best New Play.
He is currently writing a podcast for Crooked Media, screenplays for Netflix and FilmNation, and has developed TV pilots at HBO, Showtime, eOne, Sundance TV, and BBC America.
Zayd earned his MFA from NYU and was a Lila Acheson Wallace Fellow at Juilliard. He is currently a Professor and Director of the MFA in Writing for the Screen + Stage at Northwestern University.
